I am a doctoral candidate in the Department of Sociology at Rice University.  My research focuses on stratification, family, neighborhoods and housing, and race/ethnicity.  I am interested in how material resource transfers between family members contribute to racial and economic inequality through generations and over time, particularly in terms of residential attainment.

I am affiliated with the Kinder Institute for Urban Research, the Racism and Racial Experiences Workgroup, and the Population Health Lab at Rice University.  I have additionally been a visiting graduate student scholar at the UC Davis Center for Poverty Research and a Clogg Scholar at the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research Summer Program.

Please check out my research, teaching, and other interests, and reach out through email (ellen.m.whitehead@rice.edu) or Twitter (@EllenMWhitehead).
